MESC is committed to promoting and supporting the health and wellness of our staff. MESC wants to provide an opportunity for staff to pursue activities, choices, and lifestyles that lead to a healthy and fulfilling life. The wellness spending account (WSA) is a $500 taxable fund for staff who have an eligible employee agreement and who have been an employee with MESC for 6 consecutive months. This account resets annually on September 1st. Receipts must be dated within that years window (Sept 1st 2025 to Aug 31st 2026)
The $500 taxable fund sits in a “wellness bank” for each employee. When an employee pays for an eligible wellness expense, they can submit a claim to be reimbursed from their WSA. They will continue to be reimbursed for wellness expenses until their account is depleted. A wellness spending account is considered taxable income therefore all items submitted will be taxed. When the account resets, no left over funds from the previous year will be rolled over to the next. If an individual terminates their employment with MESC, all expenses must be submitted before their last day of employment.
The wellness spending account shall be used on expenses that focus on mindfulness, mental health, nutrition, physical health/exercise, personal growth, and cultural and spiritual support. This account only covers expenses used on the employee and does not cover health and wellness expenses for spouses or family members.
